You paste a promo code into the checkout box and get no discount—or a message that the offer can’t be applied. It’s frustrating, but the cause may be as simple as an excluded product or a minimum order requirement. A quick check of the offer terms is usually more useful than trying a string of unrelated codes.
Check the Cart First
Confirm that the exact item in your cart is eligible and that the order meets any stated minimum. A retailer may calculate that minimum using eligible merchandise rather than the full total, so review the terms instead of guessing. Also check whether the offer has an expiration date or other limits listed by the retailer.
Enter the Code Carefully
Copy the code as shown, taking care not to include an extra space, and use the retailer’s designated promo-code field. If the cart contains several items, test whether the offer applies to a particular product by reviewing the discount shown after entry. Don’t assume a code worked until the order summary reflects the expected change.
Know When to Move On
If the retailer’s stated terms appear to be met and the code still fails, check the retailer’s own offer page or customer support for clarification. Avoid adding unwanted items just to reach a threshold; the extra cost can outweigh a discount. Some links we share may earn a commission at no extra cost to you, and an affiliate link doesn’t change the need to verify the offer at checkout.
